EHA Meeting at Homer Johnson's farm April 2009
Last Monday Elgin Historical Association had our regular meeting out at Homer and Kate Johnson's farm midway between New Sweden and Lund. It was attended by thirty or more who had carpooled out from Elgin. The farm where Homer's Grandfather farmed and later his father and then Homer himself still sits in glorious country quiet in the barely rolling land of the Blackland Prairie.
We sat outside on the patio and near the old cistern, still useable as far as I could see, although the house was thoroughly modernized. Homer was as usual at no loss for words and had us all laughing and gasping at the inventions that his father Eric Johnson had conceived. My favorite one was a diving bell, which seems a rather odd thing to make in Central Texas. It was put together with metal found around the farm and the valve on top was connected to a garden hose for air. Naturally we asked where he used it. "In the tank." said Homer.
That's Jack Abrahamson gaping in the background.
