The Old Baseball Field and the 1950 Undefeated Team

The history of small town baseball gets the blood pumping, and when Elgin's baseball team won the regional championship in the 1950 season, the entire town was there to cheer them on. Homer Johnson, who played shortstop and led the team in batting averages that year, has recently spent months putting an incredibly detailed poster together, showing the field where the Wildcats played hardball from 1948 to 1955.  This poster is now hanging in the Elgin Depot Museum. Pictures of the team, with batting averages and many former landmarks that once surrounded the field, are represented.  It is a work of art.  Mr. Johnson is a board member of the Elgin Historical Association.
